    Percy Kleinops

Percy is a studio partner at Open Sky Studio and Gallery in Tarpon Springs, FL, where he paints, writes and holds poetry readings. His art is exhibited nationally. He self-published his first book of poems and art in 2017, “To Keep Us Human “.  He is the author of 6 Poetry Chapbooks. He is working on 12 additional Chapbooks of poetry and art to be completed by early Summer 2025.

Percy is a humanist. Over a lifetime of experience which includes being a law enforcement officer, volunteer firefighter, lawyer, a pioneer in the organic and sustainable food service industry and entrepreneur, Percy traveled to every state in the USA and most countries in Europe.

He was born in Latvia during World War II and immigrated to the US as a young child without the benefit of speaking English.   Enduring the challenge of learning a new language and acclimating to life in a new land with plenty of food, beautiful schools, and long pants prepared the foundation to build a perspective on humans that he reveals in his work as a poet.

Percy’s curiosity of being human has developed to a fully unafraid supporter of women’s equality, racial justice, social justice, LGBTQI+ community, and human justice.  His poetry on these issues is often written in the first person.  In researching the focus of a work, he seeks to connect with and understand all emotional levels of his focus. This is expressed as if he was the subject. It is his believe by reading poetry in the first person the reader will come to identify with emotional component of his poem.

Percy uses simple language in a style of his own in hopes of reaching a wider audience and to bring awareness of the beauty of poetry as a form for communicating emotion. His poetry is written to take the reader to a place not visited or to connect with someone not known before. When he writes about our collective humanness he uses simple words that lead to explaining, elevating or discovering ourselves

He appreciates comments from his readers.  Reach him at percy@handwordspublishing.com  Visit his art at www.percykleinops.com
